Before EasyReg can run from the network server, you have to run EASYREGN.EXE once with the EasyReg folder on the network server NOT write-protected, because the network version of EasyReg needs to be initialized. Then EASYREGN.EXE will open with a slightly different window:
The option "Setup EasyReg International" is only available if the EasyReg folder is NOT located on drive C or D, and is not (yet) write-protected.
Click the "Setup EasyReg International" button, and follow the instructions in the next window.
In particular, it is recommended that you provide the full path to the Microsoft Excel executable file EXCEL.EXE on the network if the network PC's do not have stand-alone versions of Excel. Moreover, you will also have the option to block the users from storing the EasyReg settings on particular drives. For example, the network administrator of the Department of Economics at Penn State has blocked all but drive H because the private folders of the graduate students and faculty are located on drive H.
Furthermore, EASYREGN.EXE will automatically copy the backup database files ERDBBAK.DB1 and ERDBBAK.DB2 to the working database files EASYREG.DB1 and EASYREG.DB2, respectively, in its folder.
After EasyReg has been installed on the network, I recommend to upgrade it (if upgrades are available), via the menu item "WWW > Upgrade EasyReg to the latest version" of EASYREG.EXE and install the guided tours, either via the menu item "WWW > Upgrade the EasyReg guided tours" of EASYREG.EXE or directly from the EasyReg download web page. Both menu items are available as long as the EasyReg folder on the server is not write-protected.
After you have run EASYREGN.EXE
once and setup and upgraded EasyReg, you may write-protect the EasyReg folder.
Note that the network version of EasyReg runs via EASYREGN.EXE. Therefore,
the shortcut to EasyReg International on the network should link to EASYREGN.EXE rather than
to EASYREG.EXE.
