Minimal setup of EasyReg International
The minimal setup is a two-stage procedure, where in the first stage only two executable files, EASYREG.EXE and
ERISETUP.EXE, are installed, together with a few auxiliary files needed for the second setup stage, to be
discussed below.
-
Setup stage 1
- Double-click and run (don't choose Save!) the following six self-extracting
WinZip files via Internet Explorer. Do not use Netscape or Mozilla Firefox, because
these browsers require that you to save these files first. If you read this web page in another web browser than Internet
Explorer, copy/paste the URL of this page in Internet Explorer and make the latter your default web browser until EasyReg
is completely installed.
-
ERI_MIN_D1.EXE
-
ERI_MIN_D2.EXE
-
ERI_MIN_D3.EXE
-
ERI_MIN_D4.EXE
-
ERI_MIN_D5.EXE
-
ERI_MIN_D6.EXE
The size of these files is about 1.4 MB each. Once the WinZip self-extractor appears, click "Unzip > OK > Close".
Then the contents of these WinZip files is extracted in folders c:\EasyRegMinimalSetup.tmp\Disk1 through
c:\EasyRegMinimalSetup.tmp\Disk6, respectively. These folders are created by the WinZip self-extractor.
- Run SETUP.EXE in folder c:\EasyRegMinimalSetup.tmp\Disk1. This program only installs the EasyReg main module
EASYREG.EXE together with program ERISETUP.EXE and some auxiliary files. The latter program is needed to complete
the setup of EasyReg in the second stage.
Trouble shooting:
- If the setup program gives an error message, check whether the Windows folder
contains a write-protected file SETUP1.EXE,
which may be a left-over from an aborted setup (this is very rare, though!).
If so, uncheck the Read-Only attribute of this file.
- If the setup program seems to stall, just be patient. Under some versions
of Windows XP the installation is rather slow.
- If after copying the EasyReg files the setup program stalls for more than 15
minutes then Windows XP has a problem
creating the EasyReg icon in the Start menu. This may happen on network computers
for which you do not have administrative privileges. If so, terminate the setup
program via Alt-Ctrl-Delete and create a shortcut to EasyReg manually, as follows:
- Open
- Start > Settings > Taskbar and Start Menu (under Windows Classic style),
or
- Start > Control Panel > Taskbar and Start Menu (under Windows XP style).
- Click the Start Menu tab of the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" window,
set the style to "Classic Start Menu" and click the "Customize..." button.
- In the "Customize Classic Start Menu" window, click "Add...".
- In the "Shortcut" window, type in the location of EASYREG.EXE, i.e.,
c:\Program Files\EasyReg International\EASYREG.EXE
and click the "Next >" button.
- In the "Program Folder" window, click the "Next >" button.
- In the "Select Title for the Program" window, change the name of the shortcut
to EasyReg International, and click "Finish".
- In the "Customize Classic Start Menu" window, click "OK".
- In the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties Window", click "Apply" and then "OK".
- Restart Windows.
Setup stage 2
- After restarting Windows, connect to the Internet.
- Start EasyReg International (EASYREG.EXE). Then the program ERISETUP.EXE is launched, in minimized form, and a web page
appears asking you to run a self-extracting WinZip file ERISETUP.TXT.EXE. This program extracts the file ERISETUP.TXT
in folder c:\Temp. This file contains the names of all the EasyReg files.
Once you have downloaded file ERISETUP.TXT, another web page appears which lists nine self-extracting WinZip files,
ERISETUP01.EXE,...,ERISETUP09.EXE, each about 1.4 MB in size, containing
all the EasyReg files. Only the first one, ERISETUP01.EXE, is linked. Run ERISETUP01.EXE in the same way as before.
Then its contents will be unzipped in folder c:\Temp\ERISETUP01. Once done, ERISETUP.EXE automatically refreshes the web
page involved, with now ERISETUP02.EXE linked. Run it. Then its contents will be unzipped in folder c:\Temp\ERISETUP02.
Repeat these download steps until the contents of ERISETUP09.EXE is unzipped, in folder c:\Temp\ERISETUP09. At this points
ERISETUP.EXE gives a message asking you to close the web page, and then restores itself to normal size. Click the button
"Copy files to the EasyReg folder", and then "Restart EasyReg". This completes the setup of EasyReg.
Guided tours
The EasyReg guided tours are not included in the setup; they have to be downloaded separately, either via the option
"WWW > Upgrade the EasyReg guided tours", or via the
previous download web page.
