Herman J. Bierens (1943) is Professor of Economics at the Pennsylvania State University, USA, since 1997. Previously he has been part-time Professor of Econometrics at Tilburg University, the Netherlands (1994-2004), Robert H. and Nancy Dedman Trustee Professor of Economics at Southern Methodist University, Dallas (1991-1996), and Professor of Econometrics at the Free University in Amsterdam (1986-1991). He studied mathematics and econometrics at the University of Amsterdam (M.S. in econometrics, 1972; Ph.D. in economics, 1980). He has been Associate Editor of Econometrica, the Journal of Econometrics and Econometric Reviews, and is Fellow of the Econometric Society (2005). He has written three monographs and more than 30 articles in refereed journals.
